I am aware that you have already been contacted by a colleague to advise of works that BEAR Scotland has planned to start on the 16th January 2012 at the A702 Hillend junction.
As well as the road surfacing works, changes are proposed at the junction of the A703 and Pentland Road where they join the A702 to improve road safety.
Travelling southbound on the A702 the approach to the junctions is currently two lanes. By the installation of build outs the scheme will reduce the approach to one lane which will allow the entry flares to be re-aligned to assist drivers entering the A702 from both the A703 and the unclassified Pentland Road.
The additional area of carriageway gained by the lane reduction will be used to re-define the give way points on the Pentland Road and A703 junctions resulting in an improved position for drivers to view the approaching traffic and therefore select a suitable gap. Re-aligning the A703 junction where it meets the A702 in this way should also reduce the speed of vehicles travelling south onto the A703.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards
